The Destruction Project- 0.4.6 Major Prototype Update


Hey Everyone!

Over the last few days I have been doing a bunch of work based off of feedback from users on Reddit and Itch.io. I have completely rebuilt the Testing map, it is no longer on an island. the terrain is unfinished, however the city is starting to look more like a city than town. I am currently struggling with a few major bugs that I will solve before adding more content. One of the worst offenders right now is mesh deformations on cars not scaling correctly. It was pretty wild when I hit a car with a 15,000kg truck and barely put a dent in it, just to get out and flatten it with a pistol bullet. I'm also having some painful issues with lighter vehicles, to those familiar with Unity, what do you normally like to do with the settings on your wheel colliders? I currently have infinite traction until I just don't, cornering is plagued by some crazy understeer as well. I will have to continue learning more about car physics and Unity.

I have also implemented a great number of new goodies:

  • Added: Over 90 new buildings.
  • Added: Over 20 new props.
  • Added: GunCar - A small tank like vehicle with a mounted .50Cal turret. This thing shreds buildings.
  • Added: Scud Launcher - For those times when you want to remove an entire city block in one go.
  • Added: Helicopter - The rotors are still misaligned, but it flies! good for admiring your destruction.
  • Added: 2 fast cars - a couple cars to race around the city with.
  • Added: Racing Stadium - A little bit more epic than the other buildings, a lag monster when destroyed, probably wont make it to final.
  • Added: First Person Controller - I'm really excited about this one and the possibilities it has.
  • Added: Nailgun - Shoots nails, could be interesting down the road.
  • Added: Hammer - The poor man's wrecking ball.
  • Added: Pistol - Pretty damn useless right now, I might have to add something worth shooting.
  • Added: Procedurally generated properties.
  • Added: Starting yard - A place to gather all the equipment.
